1936 Yucatán Cloth Doll

$595.00

This doll is part of an International doll collection. Her loving owner passed away at 89 leaving her and several other very impressive dolls from all over the world in her estate. Her father worked for the United States government ,and traveled to many different countries, always bringing her back a doll from each region he traveled to. When she passed away her children donated most of them to several museums in the San Francisco Bay Area, but I was lucky enough to inherit a box of them for helping in the removal of a handmade glass case they were in. This doll is from the Yucatán peninsula of Mexico. She was made sometime in the early 1930’s. She is dressed in a large burnt orange skirt and green top. She wears a belt of silver of which a few links are missing. Her face is that of the native Indian, and she wears a string of blue beads around her neck, and beads at her ears. She is handmade, and hand painted. A beautiful representation of the local people.
